Abstract

This document generally describes techniques for controlling and using integrated occupancy and ambient light sensors. In some examples, a lighting device includes a light source, a light sensor, and a transceiver. A determination is made to determine whether the light source is operating in an on mode of operation or an off mode of operation. Responsive to determining that the light source is operating in an off mode of operation, instructions are received at the lighting device to pulse-drive operation of the light source to generate light pulses. The lighting device is also configured to receive instructions to compressively sense, using the light sensor, a light level associated with the area illuminated by the light pulse. The lighting device may output data representing the light level compressively sensed by the light sensor.

Description

Background technique [0001] Unless otherwise indicated, the materials described in this section are not prior art to the claims in this application and are not admitted to be prior art by inclusion in this section. [0002] In some commercial and personal settings, electricity and other utility costs can be expensive. To address the high cost of electricity and other utilities, some institutions have adopted energy conservation policies for turning off lighting and other energy-consuming devices when not in use. Because employees and / or other occupants of a particular business or home may not be aware of such energy conservation policies, these policies may or may not be useful. [0003] Some employers or homeowners install lighting control mechanisms. These mechanisms often require the installation of motion detectors or other devices. These devices can be bulky, expensive, computationally intensive, and / or overwhelming. Additionally, these devices often must be retrofitt...
