Abstract

A photovoltaic module is provided, along with method of their construction. The photovoltaic module includes a window substrate; a photovoltaic material; and an encapsulation substrate laminated to the window substrate with the photovoltaic material positioned therebetween. A support structure is mounted onto a back surface of the encapsulation substrate to inhibit bowing of the encapsulation substrate. The support structure can be indirectly mounted onto the back surface with an intermediate material (e.g., an adhesive strip) positioned therebetween. The support structure can include ridges that define peaks and valleys that are configured to inhibit bowing of the support structure.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention generally relates to a support structure for supporting a photovoltaic module (ie, a solar panel), and in particular to a method of mounting a photovoltaic module to a support configured for such a support structure. Background technique [0002] Solar energy is regarded as the cleanest and most environmentally friendly energy source currently available, for which photovoltaic module arrays are gaining more and more attention. In a photovoltaic module array, a plurality of individual photovoltaic modules are arranged adjacent to each other in order to maximize the number of modules within a particular size array. Therefore, frameless photovoltaic modules are more advantageous in such arrays because inactive areas at the edges of each photovoltaic module can be minimized, while adjacently arranged modules are brought closer to each other. [0003] Typically, most photovoltaic modules today are mounted to a mounting system using cl...
