Embodiment Construction

[0033] in accordance with figure 1 , the pump 10 has a pump housing 11 and a rotatable shaft 12 in the form of a drive shaft or pump shaft. The pump 10 is driven via a shaft 12 by an electric motor (not shown). The pump 10 is arranged vertically and is used to transport LNG so as to enable the LNG to exit at a throttle bush 13 through the pump housing 11 through which the shaft 12 exits. The throttle bush 13 is sealed against the environment by means of the sealing system 9 . Only details of the shaft 12 and the pump housing 11 are shown; the representation of the other components of the pump 10 has likewise been omitted.

[0034] The part of the throttle bush 13 protruding from the pump housing 11 is surrounded by the cylindrical outer wall 15 of the insulating chamber 16 . The outer wall 15 of the isolation chamber 16 is screwed to the pump housing 11 using a plurality of screws, of which only one screw 17 is shown in the figure. The insulating chamber 16 is delimited by...

Abstract

The present invention relates to a sealing arrangement for a rotating shaft. The invention relates to a sealing system, in particular for sealing a pump shaft of a vertically arranged pump for conveying eg liquefied natural gas (LNG) or other cryogenic fluids below -80°C. The sealing system has a mechanical seal arrangement (27) through which barrier fluid flows at barrier fluid pressure. The mechanical seal arrangement (27) prevents the escape of sealing fluid from the sealing chamber (20), wherein the barrier fluid pressure is higher than the sealing fluid in the sealing chamber (20). In order to realize a sealing system that can be produced cheaply and is particularly easy to operate, it is proposed according to the invention that the piston rod (44) of the barrier fluid pressure device (33) required for setting the barrier fluid pressure is at least partially arranged in the cylinder (34) )outside. The cylinder (34) can therefore be shortened, thus lightweight and cheap.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates to a sealing system for sealing a rotating shaft protruding through a sealing chamber as described in the preamble of technical solution 1 . Background technique [0002] A sealing system of this type has been offered and sold for many years by Sulzer Pumpen AG under the sales name "J-Unit Cryogenic Sealing System". [0003] The sealing system is used in particular for sealing pump shafts of vertically arranged pumps for conveying, for example, liquefied natural gas (LNG). Liquefied natural gas has a temperature of about -160°C, so that standard sealing arrangements cannot be readily used. The sealing system is characterized in particular in that the cold LNG is separated from the mechanical seal arrangement which performs the sealing function. The reason for this is that in the sealing chamber arranged adjacent to the mechanical seal there is no liquefied natural gas but natural gas having a much higher temperature than...
