Apparatus for removing ions provided with a plurality of capacitive electrode stacks. Each capacitive electrode stack may have: a plurality of first electrodes provided with a plurality of first current collectors; a plurality of second electrodes provided with a plurality of second current collectors; and between the first electrodes and the second electrodes spacer to allow water to flow between the electrodes.
