Embodiment Construction

[0028] Hand size and / or finger length can be used to determine how the configuration of the mobile device (eg, tablet computer, gaming device) will be customized for use by a particular user. Proximity data gathered using a proximity sensor may be used to determine the size of the user's hand (eg, hand width) and / or the length of one or more of the user's fingers as the user grips the mobile device. The user may need to grip the mobile device with two hands on opposite sides of the mobile device. This tight grip involving both hands prevents the user from faking larger hands by using the two hands together to mimic a single hand. This may be especially useful to prevent small children from forging the hands of larger adults who may be authorized for less constrained access to the mobile device.

[0029] The configuration of the mobile device can be customized for the user in a number of ways. In some embodiments, which functions (eg, applications) are available to the user a...

Abstract

Various arrangements for customizing a configuration of a mobile device are presented. The mobile device may collect proximity data. The mobile device may determine that a user has gripped the mobile device based on the proximity data. A finger length of the user may be determined using the proximity data. Configuration of the mobile device may be customized at least partially based on the determined finger length of the user

Description

[0001] cross reference [0002] This application asserts Provisional Application No. 61 / 552,396, filed October 27, 2011, entitled "Controlling Access to a Mobile Device Using Hand Size," and Provisional Application No. 61 / 552,396 filed on April 2012 Priority to U.S. Nonprovisional Application No. 13 / 440,317, filed on March 15, entitled "Controlling Access to a Mobile Device." Said provisional application is hereby incorporated by reference for all purposes. U.S. Patent Application 12 / 851,413, entitled "Communication Management Utilizing Destination Device User Presence Probability," filed August 5, 2010, is hereby incorporated by reference for for all purposes. Background technique [0003] Multiple users may interact with the same mobile device (eg, the same tablet computer or gaming device).
