[0015] The following description is provided with reference to the drawings, wherein like reference numbers are used to refer to like components throughout. While various details of one or more techniques are described herein, other techniques are also possible. In some instances, structures and devices are shown in block diagram form in order to facilitate describing various techniques.

[0016] Hand gestures performed by a user can be used to control a number of different remote devices, such as mobile phones, computers, head-mounted displays, televisions, and / or other electronic devices. When a user performs a gesture with a hand, various characteristics of the user's body may be detected in order to recognize the gesture. When a user performs a hand gesture (eg, making a fist), the movement and / or position of bones, ligaments, skin, and / or other tissue may be specific to the gesture. In other words, based on the movement and / or position of bones, ligaments, skin, and / or ...

Abstract

Embodiments of the present invention relate to controlling an electronic device based on hand gestures detected by detecting the surface morphology of a part of a user's body. For example, pressure data indicative of a user's bone and tissue location corresponding to a particular movement, position, and / or posture of the user's hand may be detected. Electromyographic (EMG) sensors coupled to the user's skin may also be used to determine gestures made by the user. These sensors can be coupled to cameras that can be used to capture images of the device based on recognized gestures. The device can then be identified and controlled.

Description

Background technique [0001] Many electronic devices are used for remote control. Common examples include televisions, set-top boxes, DVRs, media players (eg, CD players, DVD players, Blu-ray players), tablet computers, desktop and laptop computers, and teleconferencing equipment. Currently, a common way for users to control this device is by using a remote control such as may be used with a television. This approach can be inconvenient in several ways. First, it requires the user to have a remote control device. Second, the remote control that needs to be used may only work with certain pieces of equipment, so for locations with multiple devices that can be controlled remotely, multiple remote controls may be required. Contents of the invention [0002] Embodiments of the present invention relate to controlling an electronic device based on hand gestures detected by detecting the surface morphology of a part of a user's body. For example, pressure data may indicate the l...
