Abstract

The present invention relates to purposeful cooling with separate feed ports to the cylinders. A cooling system for an engine having multiple piston cylinders is provided. The cooling system may include a liquid coolant source having liquid coolant and a network of cylinder cooling channels having inlets and outlets for receiving and delivering the liquid coolant. The network of cylinder cooling passages has a plurality of separate upstream fluid passages, each of which is fluidly coupled to an inlet to receive parallel flows of liquid coolant directly from a liquid coolant source. The network of cylinder cooling passages further has a plurality of cylinder jacket passages each extending around a portion of a respective one of the plurality of piston cylinders and placed in close proximity to the respective piston cylinder. The cylinder jacket passages are directly fluidly coupled to respective ones of the plurality of individual upstream fluid passages to receive and deliver liquid coolant to the outlet for improved cooling performance.
