Embodiment Construction

[0052] Aspects of the present invention generally relate to rubber mixtures that primarily include uncured rubber and cured rubber powder that acts as a release agent. As the rubber mixture may ultimately be fed into the vulcanization process, the mixture may include additional compounds used in the vulcanization process. Rubber compounds consistent with aspects of the present invention can be defined by a variety of attributes.

[0053] For example, the rubber compound can be defined in terms of the size of the uncured rubber form, the size of the cured rubber powder, and the weight percent of the powder to the uncured rubber. Aspects of the invention may also be defined by the composition of cured rubber powder and uncured rubber used to form the rubber compound. Furthermore, aspects of the invention may be defined by the resulting properties of the rubber formed by vulcanizing (or curing) the rubber mixture. Ultimately, aspects of the invention produce a free-flowing rubb...

Abstract

Rubber is very sticky in its uncured state, and rubber forms such as pellets, flakes, etc. tend to be difficult to process due to agglomeration and adhesion of these rubber forms. Aspects of the invention use cured rubber powder as a release agent in molded rubber compounds. In one aspect, the cured rubber powder has a particle size in uncured rubber form of between 50 μm and 250 μm, a diameter of between 1 mm and 10 mm, and a length of between 1 mm and 15 mm.

Description

technical field [0001] Aspects of the invention relate to free-flowing rubber pellets. Background technique [0002] Rubber is a versatile material with numerous uses, one of which is in the manufacture of shoe outsoles. Manufacturing reproducible and consistently cured rubber products requires precise measurement and handling of uncured rubber forms such as rubber pellets, sheets, discs, cylinders, and the like. Unfortunately, delicate handling of the uncured rubber form is challenging because the uncured rubber form can stick together and agglomerate. [0003] Release agents have been developed to reduce the stickiness of uncured rubber. Exemplary detackifiers include kaolin clays dispersed in water and soap solutions, chemicals such as sodium sulfate, sodium phosphate, etc., which can also be used in aqueous dispersions. Fatty acid salts and ethylene bisstearamide (EBS) are other examples of detackifiers used in industry. Contents of the invention [0004] Aspects o...
