Abstract

The invention is entitled Techniques for Controlling Point-to-Multipoint Data Transmission. The present application proposes techniques for controlling point-to-multipoint (PTM) transmission of data over a PTM-enabled network (150) to groups of users. In the first PTM transmission, the location information query message is distributed into the group service area (154). Upon receipt of the query message, the item of user equipment responds with a location information response message containing location information indicating the location of the corresponding user equipment. Based on the received location information response message, a content transfer area is determined (156, 157, 158). Then, a second PTM transmission to said content transmission area is initiated for content distribution. Additionally, the content can be distributed via unicast retrieval.

Description

[0001] This application is a divisional application of the invention patent application with the application number 200680054773.1, the application date is June 2, 2006, and the invention title is "Technology for Controlling Point-to-Multipoint Data Transmission". technical field [0002] The present invention relates generally to the field of multicast / broadcast transmission of content data. More particularly, the present invention relates to techniques for controlling point-to-multipoint transmission of content over a broadcast-enabled network to groups of users. Background technique [0003] Telephony, messaging, and on-demand streaming services are examples of point-to-point (PTP) or unicast communication services. Broadcast and multicast services, on the other hand, are based on point-to-multipoint (PTM) communication. Using PTM communications, content (eg voice, text, graphics or multimedia content) is typically transmitted from a single source to multiple destination...
