Abstract

The present teachings provide a differential assembly with a C-lock retainer that includes a pair of plates and a retainer. A pair of pinions are rotatable within the housing for common rotation about a first axis and relative rotation about a second axis. A pair of side gears are meshable with the pinions, each coupled for rotation with the output shaft. Each plate may be received in a slot defined by a corresponding output shaft, and may have a radial width that is greater than the depth of the slot. The retainer can be positioned axially between the pinion gear and the side gear and can include releasably coupled first and second bodies that cooperate to define first and second bores. Each hole may define an inner surface surrounding a respective one of the plates to inhibit the respective one of the plates from disengaging from the slot.
