The embodiment of the invention discloses a network registration method comprising the steps that when startup of a mobile terminal is detected, RPLMN recorded by the mobile terminal is read, and PLMN of current candidate cells is obtained through network scanning; the first time of startup of the mobile terminal in a roaming location is determined according to the recorded RPLMN and the PLMN of the current candidate cells; and when the first time of startup of the mobile terminal in the roaming location is determined, the PLMN of the current candidate cells is applied to perform network registration. The embodiment of the invention also discloses the mobile terminal. With application of the network registration method and the mobile terminal, the steps of registration of a roaming location network can be simplified in the first time of startup in the roaming location so that speed of network registration can be enhanced.
