Abstract

Embodiments of the present invention provide systems, methods, and computer storage media for automated independent guidance of hardware inventory including provisioning workflows for discovering, validating, and configuring hardware inventory. In an exemplary embodiment, an in-rack computing device, such as an enclosure manager or a selected blade, initiates an intra-rack communication network with the rack's hardware inventory. The in-rack computing device utilizes the in-rack hardware inventory to initiate intra-rack communication using the in-rack communication network to discover at least a set of computing units in the hardware inventory. Intra-rack communication includes traffic received from a collection of computing units. The in-rack computing device verifies the operational configuration of the hardware inventory based on comparing expected operational configuration parameters with actual operational configuration parameters, at least a portion of the operational configuration parameters in information carried within traffic received from the set of computing units be retrieved.
