Abstract

A landing light system and steering method and computer readable medium is provided. A landing light system includes a camera, a controller, and a landing light. A tangible, non-transitory memory may have instructions for controlling a landing light. The controller may perform operations including receiving a first image at a first time from the camera, receiving a second image at a second time from the camera, estimating a focus of expansion between the first image and the second image, and aiming the landing light based on the focus of expansion.

Description

technical field [0001] The present disclosure relates to aircraft landing systems, and more particularly, to aircraft landing light systems. Background of the invention [0002] Commercial aircraft often employ external landing lights used during takeoff, landing and taxiing to illuminate the area around the aircraft to provide visibility to the pilot. Lighting the runway is advantageous during takeoff, landing and taxiing. Aircraft landing lights typically have an illumination path aimed in a direction relative to the nose orientation of the aircraft. However, crosswinds can cause the plane to pitch and drift, causing the nose of the plane to point in a different direction than the plane is traveling. Landing lights aimed at the front of the aircraft may point to an off-runway landing strip. Poorly lit runways can make landing an aircraft more difficult. Contents of the invention [0003] A system for steering of landing lights is disclosed herein. The landing light ...
