Abstract

An emergency collective actuator comprising: an actuator motor to generate an actuating force; and an actuator linkage directly engaging a friction control rod pivotally supported on a helicopter collective control stick to apply the actuating force Apply directly to the friction control lever such that the actuating force first disengages the friction control and then decreases the adjustable pitch towards the minimum collective pitch position. The actuator may include a clutch that slips to allow the pilot to overcome the actuation force, and slips in response to engagement of the pilot's friction controller, otherwise co-rotating with the motor shaft to bias the adjustable pitch toward the minimum collective pitch position.
