Problems solved by technology

For example, a costly 10-13 bit analog-to-digital conversion (ADC) implementation with low noise is required to provide the necessary dynamic range and high enough resolution, while the DC offset may depend on vehicle speed and may require a more complex Software, more computing time, and more energy
Conventional methods may thus result in increased use of computing resources, increased energy consumption, increased battery size, increased weight and higher cost

Embodiment Construction

[0040] The Earth's magnetic field is a vector; at every point in space it has strength and direction. The Earth's magnetic field can be described in part by three orthogonal strength components (eg, X, Y, and Z). Embodiments may employ a magnetic field sensor (including a single x-axis magnetic field sensor, a single z-axis magnetic field sensor, a dual-axis magnetic field sensor, or a three-axis magnetic field sensor) to detect the reference magnetic field. The reference magnetic field may be the Earth's magnetic field. An embodiment detects the rotation of the wheel using the magnitude of the change in the vector of the reference magnetic field.

[0041] Example embodiments include an APS-based automatic positioning system that includes a magnetic field sensor that can measure a reference magnetic field, including the Earth's magnetic field having a range of at least (250mG, 650mG). By using the measured component of the reference magnetic field, the example embodiments de...

Abstract

The present invention relates to single-axis or multi-axis magnetic sensors for relative phase measurement of wheel rotation in TPMS applications. Embodiments may provide a system, wheel aligner, wheel aligning apparatus or method for locating the position of at least one of a plurality of wheels from a vehicle. In one embodiment, a system includes: a detector that obtains information about a reference magnetic field in which the at least one wheel rotates; an anti-lock braking system (ABS) unit that obtains an angle with a plurality of wheels rotation-related information; and a locator that determines a position of the at least one wheel based at least in part on information related to a reference magnetic field and information related to angular rotation of a plurality of wheels, wherein the position includes data from a plurality of wheels the position of the wheel. The reference magnetic field may be the Earth's magnetic field.

Description

technical field [0001] The field of the disclosure relates to single or multi-axis relative phase measurement of wheel rotation in tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS) applications. In particular, the present disclosure relates to a TPMS module using a magnetic field sensor associated therewith, and to a method for locating the position of at least one wheel from a plurality of wheels of a vehicle. Background technique [0002] A TPMS is an electronic system that monitors the air pressure inside the tires on a vehicle. The TPMS reports tire pressure information to the driver of the vehicle in real time via gauges, pictogram displays, low pressure warning lights, or other technologies. A TPMS with an automatic positioning feature is able to locate the exact tire, which transmits data from a tire pressure sensor (TPS) module located in the tire to an electronic control unit (ECU). Conventional systems for automatic positioning correlate anti-lock braking system (ABS) wheel...
