Embodiment Construction

[0026] Figure 1 to Figure 10 One embodiment of a valve assembly 10 for creating a multi-directional flow path is shown, according to one embodiment. The valve assembly 10 includes a valve body 12 that includes a hinge or hinges 18 (see figure 2 , image 3 , Figure 4 , Figure 5 , Image 6 ) first body portion 14 and second body portion 16 connected to each other. The valve body 12 and corresponding parts 14, 16 are typically made from a metallic material such as stainless steel, but they may also be formed from a suitable hard plastic material. When in the closed state, the first body portion 14 and the second body portion 16 define a channel 20 (in Figure 5 and Image 6 As best seen in ), passageway 20 extends through closure valve body 12 receiving flexible conduit 70 . In one embodiment, the channel 20 is substantially circular in cross-section when the valve body 12 is in the closed state. For example, first body portion 14 may include a semi-annular or semi-cir...

Abstract

A valve assembly with a multidirectional flow path includes a valve body that includes respective hinged portions defining respective passageways extending through the valve body when in a closed state. A flexible conduit or tubing having a loop portion and a plurality of branches extending from the loop portion is at least partially positioned within the valve body. Portions of the loop that extend beyond the valve body are encapsulated by respective rigid jackets. Multiple valves are situated on the valve body and are used to selectively pinch the loop portion in different pinching configurations to direct fluid to or from the particular branches. The valve assembly may be integrated into a manufacturing or other production process with optional additional jackets used to encapsulate theflexible conduit branches.

Description

[0001] related application [0002] This application claims priority to US Provisional Patent Application Serial No. 62 / 236,007, filed October 1, 2015, which is hereby incorporated by reference in its entirety. Claim priority under Title 35 USC Section 119 and any other applicable statute. technical field [0003] The field of the invention relates generally to valve systems used in connection with pharmaceutical applications or bioprocess applications. More specifically, the field of the invention relates to valve systems comprising flexible, sterile catheters or tubing that may be used in pharmaceutical or bioprocess applications. The valve assemblies described herein are particularly suitable for use with chromatography applications utilizing reflux, filtration applications, or capture applications. Background technique [0004] Many commercial products are manufactured using chemical and biological processes. For example, commercial quantities of drugs are manufacture...
