Problems solved by technology

[0005] One solution with more tiny organisms would be to distribute their larvae, but mosquito larvae are actually aquatic so it is not possible to use this solution for mosquitoes

Embodiment Construction

[0071] In some embodiments of the invention, the invention relates to a drone-carryable device that provides control and sustained release of insects, particularly, but not exclusively, devices for the release of tiny insects such as mosquitoes.

[0072] The major challenge that exists is the need for a system that can control the release of insects over a sustained period of time such that measured doses can be applied over reasonably large areas to control wild insect populations.

[0073] Controlling the release of insects allows for optimal distribution of insects over a large area and maximizes the distribution of insects in terms of energy used by the drone. Additionally, controlled release allows for even coverage of the area.

[0074] Furthermore, since the density of wild populations is not constant but varies from site to site, and because of the cost of sterilizing mosquitoes, it is more cost-effective to apply the required dose, not more than required. Of course, ...

Abstract

A storage and release mechanism for aerial distribution and release of insects from an unmanned aerial vehicle, the release being aimed at controlling a wild insect population, the wild population having fluctuating local densities, the mechanism comprising a switch for switching between two or more different sustainable insect delivery rates for release of the insects. The method is particularlysuitable for sterile male mosquitoes in programs to control wild mosquito populations.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention, in some of its embodiments, relates to apparatus and methods for continuous aerial release of insects from unmanned aerial vehicles, and more particularly, but not exclusively, to continuous control and measurement of tiny insects (e.g., UAV-carried storage and release mechanism for the distribution of micro-mosquitoes that are released in a state-of-the-art state. Background technique [0002] The use of drones to distribute insects and invertebrates for control purposes is known. Prior art systems dispense fly and moth larvae. One known system for moth larvae places tubes under the aircraft, and when a dispense is required, the door is opened and a fan is activated to force the insects out of the tube. The problem encountered was that the tubes emptied too quickly, so the power was reduced until it was considered that the tubes had taken the optimum time to evacuate. [0003] However, while they were able to find a reasonabl...
