Problems solved by technology

This is an expensive procedure that requires highly organized and lengthy clinical supervision to determine if the catheter needs to be replaced
Complications of this regimen include inadvertent overfilling of the bladder during a retention event (i.e., bladder distension) and a known increased risk of CAUTI due to the procedure of reinserting a prematurely removed catheter

Abstract

A bladder pressure measurement system is provided. One or more elements of the system are operably combined with a previously deployed urine drainage catheter. The system includes a urodynamic data system and a urine drainage catheter balloon adapter. The data system features a pressure sensor for bladder pressure measurement, and a processor / controller for receiving, processing and / or displaying selected urodynamic patient parameters including sensed / monitored pressure data. An adapter operably couples the pressure sensor of the data system to the balloon inflation valve of the catheter. The adapter includes an adapter valve for connection to the balloon inflation valve, and includes a housing including a balloon inflation valve portion and an adapter valve portion, the portions being pushably engageable to facilitate establishing and maintaining a secure interface between the balloon inflation valve and the adapter valve.
