Embodiment Construction

[0022] The specific examples provided in the following description should not be construed as limiting the scope and / or applicability of the appended claims. Unless explicitly stated otherwise, the list of examples and groups of examples provided in the description are not exhaustive.

[0023] Figure 1a A schematic illustration of a power system according to an exemplary and non-limiting embodiment of the present invention is shown. In this exemplary case, the power system is part of the power system of the ship or ferry. The power system includes a generator 107 driven with an internal combustion engine 122, which may be, for example, a diesel engine. The power system includes motors 108 and 109 for driving actuators. In this exemplary case, the actuator is a propeller. In addition, the power system may include a lighting system 120, for example. The power system includes a power control system for transferring power from the generator 107 to the motors 108 and 109 and other...

Abstract

An electric power system comprises recording devices (101-105) located at different elements of the electric power system and configured to record waveform samples of quantities related to operation of the elements of the electric power system. The electric power system comprises a central device (106) configured to receive the recorded waveform samples from the recording devices. The recording devices are synchronized to maintain a common clock time and to associate, to each of the recorded waveform samples, one or more timing values indicative of the clock time during recording the waveformsample. As the timing values are associated to the waveform samples, it is possible to reconstruct a time order of phenomena indicated by the recorded waveform samples. Thus, it is possible to identify which of the phenomena are causes and which are consequences when analyzing for example what happened prior to a fault situation.

Description

Technical field [0001] The present disclosure relates to a power system that includes components such as (for example, but not necessarily) generators, motors, and power converters. In addition, the present disclosure relates to a method for monitoring a power system. This patent application claims priority based on European patent application 17161993.5. Background technique [0002] In many cases, power systems include components such as generators, motors, and power converters. In addition, the power system may include protector elements such as, for example, an overcurrent protector, an overvoltage protector, an undervoltage protector, and an overheat protector. For example, the overcurrent protector may be, for example, a fuse or a relay configured to open the circuit when the current is too large to cause danger. For another example, the overheat protector may include one or more temperature sensors, and a relay configured to cut off the power supply when one or more mea...
