Embodiment Construction

[0014] The present disclosure relates to a flexible battery comprising: an anode comprising a composite material having particles of an anode active material (graphite, silicon, etc.) in a three-dimensional crosslinked network of carbon nanotubes; a cathode comprising a composite material having cathode active material particles in a three-dimensional crosslinked network; and a separator positioned between the anode and the cathode. In some aspects, the battery does not have a current collector. In some aspects, the cathode, anode, and separator are packaged in a pouch cell. The pouch cell case has suitable flexibility. In some aspects, the pouch cell can be a polymer pouch cell. In some aspects, the flexible battery's packaging material provides a substrate for attaching, printing, or embedding the desired device. In some aspects, the flexible battery is configured for use in a wrist / ankle strap, strip, or patch. According to some aspects, a wearable device may be configu...

Abstract

The invention is entitled as a 'flexible battery as integration platform for wearable sensors and processing/transmitting devices'. The present disclosure relates to devices integrated with flexible batteries wherein the flexible batteries can be wearable and can provide an integration platform for various electronic devices.

Description

Background technique [0001] With the recent intensive development of wearable devices, healthcare, cosmetics, wearable medical sensors and drug delivery devices, portable electronics, smart packaging and RFID, among other applications, developing thin and flexible batteries with high energy density is becoming an imperative An important challenge in providing proper power to the device. [0002] Depending on the device, these batteries should not only provide potentials (V-range) suitable for current electronics, but also have energies from μWh to kWh to cover a wide range of applications. However, in addition to electrical parameters, these new applications require batteries to be flexible, thin, stretchable, rollable, bendable, and foldable, and to cover both micro and large areas. These features are difficult to achieve in typical battery designs where electrodes are printed on a current collector such as metal foil, and for batteries packaged in rigid housings such as coi...
