Embodiment Construction

[0050] The above objects and embodiments are illustrated by the following description in conjunction with the following drawings.

[0051] In carrying out the method of manufacturing a protective helmet according to the present invention, there are generally no restrictions on the material used, as long as the material can be used to manufacture a protective helmet in an insert molding process. In preferred embodiments, the materials used in the present invention will meet all performance requirements of all conventional safety requirements that exist during manufacture.

[0052] Figure 1 is a plan view of a one-piece framework 16 for use in the present invention. The present invention includes the step of insert molding such a skeleton 16 into the protective helmet 10 . In particular, the skeleton 16 is placed in a mold and a polymer such as expandable polystyrene is injected into the mold to form the final part in each shape of the number of perimeter panels 12, which resul...

Abstract

A new process for making headgear. The process comprises the step of insert molding an armature (16) into helmet segments to produce a protective helmet (10) having superior characteristics. The process also comprises the step of strategically locating a retention system (36) on the helmet to provide increased stabilization of the helmet on the wearer's head. The process further comprises the step of attaching an improved strap guide (20) to the helmet. One embodiment of this invention is a process for making an insert-molded helmet that can be converted into a pouch (60). Another embodiment of this invention is a process for making a helmet that includes a protrusion at the back of a helmet suitable for a compartment.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates to a new method of manufacturing helmets. In particular the invention relates to a method of manufacturing an improved protective helmet by integrally molding segments of the helmet. The method includes the step of insert molding a carcass into helmet segments to produce a protective helmet with superior performance. One embodiment of the present invention includes the steps of attaching an improved strap guide to an insert molded helmet. Background technique [0002] Protective helmets and other protective headwear have been continuously developed in recent years. It is not uncommon for a person to wear a protective headgear while riding a bicycle, riding a horse, skateboarding, playing football, baseball, hockey, skiing and ice skating, as well as for other general safety purposes. Traditional headgear is often hard, heavy, and made of impact-resistant material to enclose the wearer's head. Despite the fact that conv...
