Embodiment Construction

[0014] Referring now to the accompanying drawings, the attached figure 1 A driveline system, generally indicated at 10, is shown in a driveline system adapted to transmit rotational power from a rotational power source such as an internal combustion or diesel engine (not shown) to a plurality of driven wheels (not shown) such as out) and other driven devices. The drive train assembly 10 described is for the most part ubiquitous in the prior art and is merely intended to illustrate one environment in which the present invention may be used. Accordingly, the scope of the present invention is not intended to be limited to the appended figure 1 For use with the specific configuration of the automotive driveline assembly 10 described in , or limited to automotive driveline systems in general. Rather, as will become apparent below, the present invention may be used in any desired environment for the purposes described below.

[0015] The driveline system 10 includes a transmissio...

Abstract

A method for balancing an article for rotation includes the initial steps of providing an article having a surface and providing a balance weight including a weight portion having an opening and a rivet portion. The weight portion of the balance weight is disposed against the surface of the article. The rivet portion of the balance weight is inserted within the opening of the weight portion of the balance weight such that a portion of the rivet portion engages the surface of the article. Lastly, the portion of the rivet portion is welded, such as by resistance welding techniques, to the surface of the article.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention generally relates to a method of balancing a rotating body. In particular, the present invention relates to an improved method for securing a balance weight to an unbalanced object for balancing the rotating object. Background technique [0002] Driveline systems are widely used to generate power from an electrical source and to transfer that power from the electrical source to driven mechanisms. Often, the power source generates rotational power, and the rotational power is transferred from the power source to a rotatable driven mechanism. For example, in most land vehicles in use today, the engine / transmission generates rotational power, and this rotational power is transmitted from the output shaft of the engine / transmission through the propeller shaft assembly to the input shaft of the axle assembly, thereby rotatably Drive the wheels of the vehicle. To accomplish this, a typical propshaft assembly includes a hollow cylindr...
