Problems solved by technology

With numerous devices connected to a mobile broadband hotspot, the consumption of data may be difficult to track and bill.
Unfortunately, the present technology does not allow the subscriber to track and bill data usage from the mobile broadband hotspot on an individual basis.
However contacting individuals for reimbursements may be a time consuming and ineffective method since the other parties may simply refuse to reimburse the subscriber for the data usage.
Moreover, the subscriber to the data plan may be placed in the difficult position of having to ask for reimbursements after being personally billed for the data usage.

Abstract

There is provided a system and method for managing billing for hotspot network access. There is provided a mobile broadband hotspot comprising a processor configured to receive a credential from a device of a plurality of devices, track a data usage associated with the credential, submit the credential and the data usage to a central billing server, modify a billing statement associated with the credential using a billing policy in response to receiving the billing statement from the central billing server, and transmit the billing statement to the device for showing on a display of the device. Accordingly, the mobile broadband hotspot may track individual data usage and allow for flexible billing of individual data usage.

Description

RELATED APPLICATIONS[0001]This application claims priority of U.S. Provisional Application No. 61 / 389,169 filed on Oct. 1, 2010, which is hereby incorporated by reference in its entirety.BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION[0002]1. Field of the Invention[0003]The present invention relates generally to managing billing. More particularly, the present invention relates to managing billing for a hotspot network access.[0004]2. Background Art[0005]The use of mobile broadband hotspots has further increased the ubiquity and convenience of receiving wireless broadband access. The Internet access speed for mobile broadband hotspots is continuously improving and is presently conforming to the fourth-generation wireless telephone technology (4G) standard. A mobile broadband hotspot allows multiple devices to connect to the mobile broadband hotspot through Wi-Fi signals, Bluetooth signals, or other types of wireless signals. As a result, many devices may connect to a nearby mobile broadband hotspot for...
