The invention discloses a method for supporting local refreshing of any display area, and the method comprises the steps: dividing a to-be-compressed image into a plurality of original data blocks, and storing the original data blocks in a frame buffer after compression; obtaining the position and the size of a local refreshing area; judging whether the local refreshing area comprises an incompletely refreshed original data block area or not; if yes, receiving image data of the local refresh area, expanding the incompletely refreshed original data block area into a completely refreshed original data block area, compressing a data block corresponding to the incompletely refreshed original data block area, storing the compressed data block in a frame buffer, compressing a data block corresponding to the expanded original data block area, and storing the compressed data block in a local refreshing buffer; and reading the compressed data in the frame buffer and the local refresh buffer, decompressing the compressed data, performing pixel line splicing processing, and displaying the decompressed compressed data in a display system. The display device can support local refreshing of anydisplay area, and the problems of messy codes, blurred screens and the like in the image display process are effectively avoided.
