[0032] review

[0033] In order to provide a standard solution, the embodiments described below provide a unified world definition. Unified definition in terms of a hierarchical node tree, where each node represents a certain aspect of the world. Each node is connected to at least one other node by a branch. For example, nodes are classified at the physical level (such as political entities, infrastructure entities, and physical locations of public places) and non-physical levels (such as military APOs). This hierarchical node structure is called the main world, which is the standard world view. Each node of the main world has different properties associated with it, and these properties facilitate contextual calculations. Examples of attributes include unique ID, name, geographic entity class, latitude / longitude, relative importance, contextual parent, and more. The overworld is useful because it can be used to determine relative positions around the world and at any definab...

Abstract

Context-aware computing systems and methods are described. In particular embodiments, location aware systems and methods are described. In the described embodiments, hierarchical tree structures are utilized to ascertain a device context or location. The tree structures can be stored on or accessible to mobile computing devices so that the devices can determine their own particular context or location. A computing device can automatically determine its context or location by ascertaining a node on one or more of the tree structures and then traversing the tree structure to ascertain the complete context.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates to the field of contextual computing or ubiquitous computing. Background technique [0002] In order to obtain the available content of any material anywhere in the world, the World Wide Web (WWW) was created. Through the Web, Web users typically have access to a seemingly infinite number of resources. At this point the Web has achieved great success. However, as the Web has evolved, there are still a large number of specific needs that have not been met. In particular, people still need to access information that is contextual. That is, individuals often find themselves in a computing environment that includes some kind of context. However, contextual environments cannot be easily incorporated into current computing environments. For example, consider the context of location. People often need to access information, data, resources, etc. related to geographic location. For example, an individual desires to take adva...
