Embodiment Construction

[0053] The following disclosure describes techniques for improving image quality that are blurry or underexposed (eg, due to camera shake, shooting in dim lighting conditions, or shooting of high motion scenes). Take two pictures of the same scene with different exposure intervals. Thus, one image can be underexposed and another blurry. The information within these two images is used to provide a high quality image of the scene with no visible blur or shadows. The two images can be taken within a short interval, for example, to ensure that the center of the image does not move significantly or to limit the effects of camera motion or object motion within the scene.

[0054] This technique can be easily extended to handle highly contrasting scenes, revealing fine detail in saturated areas (as will be described with reference to Figures 22-25). In addition, some technologies can be directly integrated into digital cameras, digital video cameras, or digital cameras capable of c...

Abstract

Techniques are disclosed for improving the quality of images that may be blurry or underexposed (eg, due to camera shake, shooting in low light conditions, or shooting scenes with high speed motion). This technology can be implemented in a digital still camera, a digital video camera, or a digital camera that can capture video. In one described embodiment, a digital camera includes an image sensor, a storage device, and a processing unit. The image sensor captures two images of the same scene and stores the images in memory. The processing unit enhances the captured image with brightness correction.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention generally relates to image processing, and more particularly, to a digital camera, image processing method and apparatus with luminance correction. Background technique [0002] When a scene is photographed, a light beam emitted from a target object within the scene is recorded on film, such as conventional film or digital film. Therefore, photographing includes the recording of these beams. Photos lack certain scene information when the lighting conditions are not appropriate (eg, when shooting in low light), relative to photos taken under sufficient lighting conditions. [0003] Taking satisfactory photos in dim lighting conditions has historically been a very difficult problem. Often, images are blurred and / or underexposed. Underexposure is usually caused by not exposing a sufficient amount of light beam on the film. Underexposure can be corrected to some extent by exposing the film for a longer time, for example, by using ...
