[0018] Referring initially to Figure 1, a railway locomotive signaling system 100 is known in the art. Figure 1 shows the implementation of such a railway locomotive signaling system. A rail vehicle 106 , such as a locomotive, has wheels 108 that travel on rails 102 and 104 . The wheels 108 are connected by an axle 120 . As discussed below, locomotive signal parameters 126 identify one or more operating parameters of a train on a railroad track. The locomotive signal parameters 126 are encoded into the locomotive status signal 118 and transmitted by the locomotive signal transmitter 110 across the rails 102 and 104 . Abstract

A system and method for railway vehicle signal quality detection and reporting used in conjunction with a railway vehicle signaling system (100), wherein a status signal (118) is communicated on a railway track (102 or 104). The status signal (118) has a locomotive signal parameter (126) indicative of the status of the track area. A signal detector (112 or 114) detects a status signal (118) sent via the railway track (102 or 104). A signal measurement subsystem (310) associated with the signal detector (112 or 114) measures a locomotive signal parameter (126). The quality analysis subsystem (312) analyzes the measured locomotive signal parameters (202) and determines a measure of the quality of the locomotive signal parameters (126). The system may include equipment mounted on a rail vehicle (106), such as a locomotive, or mounted along a section of track or mounted on a mobile device. The system may also include locomotive signal quality collection and reporting equipment (400). The method includes detecting a locomotive status signal (118), and measuring a locomotive signal parameter (126) based on the detected status signal. A measure of the quality of the measured locomotive signal parameters (126) is determined and reported.
