Abstract

An advanced processor that includes multiple multithreaded processor cores, each with a data cache and an instruction cache. A data exchange interconnect is coupled to each of the processor cores and used to pass information between the processor cores. A communication network is coupled to each of the processor cores and to the plurality of communication ports. In one aspect of an embodiment of the invention, a data exchange interconnect is coupled to each of the processor cores through its respective data cache, and a communication network is coupled to each of the processor cores through a respective information station. Advantages of the present invention include the ability to provide high bandwidth communications between computer systems and memory in an efficient and cost-effective manner.

Description

[0001] related application [0002] This application is a continuation-in-part of Serial No. 10 / 682,579 (RZMI-P101) filed October 8, 2003, claiming Provisional No. 60 / 490,236 (RZMI-P101P2) filed July 25, 2003 Priority of , the entire contents of which are hereby incorporated by reference. technical field [0003] The present invention relates to the fields of computers and telecommunications, and more particularly, to an advanced processor for computer and telecommunications applications. Background technique [0004] Modern computer and telecommunication systems offer great benefits, including the ability to transfer information around the world. Conventional architectures for computer and telecommunications equipment include a large number of discrete circuits, which results in inefficiencies in processing power and communication speed. [0005] For example, figure 1 A conventional line card employing multiple discrete chips and technologies is described. exist figure...
