The invention discloses a method for representing an IPMP scheme description, which is directed to digital items used by the MPEG-21 IPMP system. Its goal is to link IPMP with the DID mode of the MPEG-21 framework. An interoperable and secure method for MPEG-21 IPMP system execution equipment is also provided to establish a complete IPMP for digital item distribution and protection under the MPEG-21 architecture. The present invention also designs appropriate locations to place IPMP information containing important IPMP tool-related control information and other tool information. This information will be put into the DID description information statement at the beginning of the containing file, or closely combined with the resource element.
