Embodiment Construction
[0019] exist figure 1 In the Claus apparatus described in , hydrogen sulfide is converted to elemental sulfur. The basic structure of the plant comprises a cracking reactor 1 with a combustion chamber 2 , a waste heat boiler 3 connected to the gas outlet of the cracking reactor 1 and a catalyst stage 4 . The hydrogen sulphide-containing acid gas 5 is fed together with air 6 and fuel gas 7 into the combustion chamber 2 of the cracking reactor 1 which, in the present exemplary embodiment, contains a catalytic converter packing 8 in addition to the combustion chamber 2 . The process gas leaves the cracking reactor 1 at a temperature of about 1200°C and is cooled in the waste heat boiler 3 to a temperature below 170°C required for sulfur condensation. The condensed sulfur is separated. After separation of the sulfur, the cooled process gas 9 is heated and fed to the catalyst stage 4 in which the sulfur compounds are converted to elemental sulfur on a catalyst. Catalyst stage 4 ...
