Problems solved by technology

However, as in figure 1 As evident in the opacity mask of the image 100 depicted in , this technique often produces an opacity mask that does not completely encompass the desired area (e.g., the entire central character, without the replica 140 of the character)

Embodiment Construction

[0024] figure 2An image 200 is shown with foreground 210 and background 220 strokes from which an opacity mask can be generated. An image may be represented as a raster of pixels (eg, a two-dimensional array of pixels), where each pixel encodes a value (eg, color, intensity, or both) describing the image at a particular location. Color images are usually encoded in a color model, such as the RGB color model (red, green, blue) or the CMYK color model (cyan, magenta, yellow, black). Black and white images or grayscale images can be encoded so that each pixel value represents the intensity of the grayscale. Other color or grayscale encodings are also possible (eg CIELAB, CIE XYZ, CIE LUV, YCC, YIQ, HSB or HSL). The pixel values correspond to the corresponding color components of the color model that encodes the image. For example, in an RGB encoded image, the value of each pixel is encoded by at least three values corresponding to each of the three color components of RGB...

Abstract

The present invention discloses methods, systems, and apparatus, including computer program products feature identifying a first plurality of pixels in a raster image as foreground pixels and a distinct second plurality of pixels in the raster image as background pixels. Each of the foreground and background pixels have a respective color value. The color values of the foreground pixels and the color values of the background pixels are used to solve for a color model of opacity. The color model of opacity is used to determine an opacity value for a pixel in the raster image.

Description

technical field [0001] The present disclosure relates to graphics image processing, and more particularly, to selecting portions of an image. Background technique [0002] In general, for each pixel in an image, an image mask indicates whether each pixel is selected or not. An image matte is sometimes referred to as an image matte, selection mask, or alpha channel. A binary mask is an image mask that can be used to indicate one of two mutually exclusive states for each pixel: "selected" or "not selected", "foreground" or "background", etc. Opacity masks, sometimes called graduated opacity masks, are image masks that represent the degree to which each pixel is in one of two mutually exclusive states. Opacity masks can be used to indicate, for example, that some pixels are entirely foreground or entirely background, while other pixels are largely foreground and slightly background. The degree to which an opacity mask identifies a given pixel as foreground may be referred to...
