Embodiment Construction

[0041] figure 1 with figure 2 One embodiment of a nozzle 10 for dispensing a random pattern (not shown) of liquid adhesive filaments is shown. As will be discussed in more detail below, the nozzle 10 is configured such that pressurized process air is directed toward the liquid binder filaments in an asymmetrical manner. This general principle can be incorporated into a wide variety of adhesive dispensing systems. Therefore, although the construction of the nozzle 10 will be described in considerable detail, those of ordinary skill in the art will understand that the nozzle 10 is just how the components can be arranged or how to drill the solid nozzle to achieve the asymmetry described below. An example of layout.

[0042] The nozzle 10 includes a nozzle body 12 and a first end plate 14 and a second end plate 16 fixed to the nozzle body 12. The nozzle body 12 has a generally triangular or wedge-shaped cross-sectional shape in which the first surface 20 and the second surface 22 ...

Abstract

The present invention relates to a nozzle and a method for dispensing random pattern of adhesive filaments. The nozzle for dispensing a random pattern of liquid adhesive filaments generally comprises an adhesive shim plate positioned between first and second air shim plates. The first air shim plate includes air slots configured to direct pressurized process air along a first angle relative to the adhesive shim plate, and the second air shim plate includes air slots configured to direct pressurized process air along a second angle relative to the adhesive shim plate. The first angle is different than the second angle so that the first and second air shim plates direct the pressurized process air asymmetrically toward adhesive filaments discharging from liquid slots in the adhesive shim plate.

Description

Technical field [0001] The present invention generally relates to air-assisted nozzles and systems for extruding and moving filaments of viscous liquid in a desired pattern, and more specifically, to the air-assisted distribution of filaments of hot melt adhesive. Background technique [0002] Various dispensing systems have been used in the past to apply patterns of various viscous liquid materials such as hot melt adhesives to mobile substrates for a wide range of manufacturing targets, including but not limited to packaging, various products Components and the structure of disposable absorbent sanitary products. Thus, the described dispensing system is used in the production of disposable absorbent sanitary products such as diapers. In the production of disposable absorbent sanitary products, a hot-melt adhesive distribution system has been developed for the application of hot-melt thermoplastic adhesive between the non-woven fiber layer and the thin polyethylene backing sheet...
