Embodiment Construction

[0036] figure 1 An exemplary wireless communication system 1 comprising two base stations 2 (BS) and one mobile station 3 (MS) is shown. The wireless communication system 1 is utilizing cell identity reuse, and thus two or more BSs 2 may have the same cell identity. In addition, the BS is providing pilot channel transmission in the wireless communication system 1 . BS2 may be a HNB as described above, but may also be a Node B or eNB.

[0037] exist figure 1 , MS 3 is moving in the direction of the nearest BS 2, as indicated by the marked arrow. The MS 3 measures the signal characteristics of the pilot channel transmission of the nearest BS 2, and reports the measurement result to the communication system 1. If two BS 2 have the same cell identity due to cell identity reuse, the system will not know which BS 2 the measurement results relate to. This ambiguity may be a problem, for example, in handover situations where MS 3 may fail to handover to a BS 2 that is not closest...

Abstract

The present invention relates to a method for cell identification in a wireless communication system, wherein said wireless communication system comprises: at least one base station transmitting pilot channel transmission; and at least one mobile station measuring a signal characteristic of said pilot channel transmission. Said method further comprises the steps of: said mobile station sending a report to said wireless communication system following said measuring of a signal characteristic; said base station changing said pilot channel transmission based on said report; said mobile station detecting said change of pilot channel transmission by measuring a signal characteristic of said change of pilot channel transmission; and identifying a cell identity for said base station based on said detection of said change of pilot channel transmission.

Description

technical field [0001] The invention relates to a method for cell identification in a wireless communication system. In addition, the present invention also discloses a base station related to the method for cell identification and a method in the base station. Background technique [0002] The development of wireless communication standards for UMTS Radio Access Network (UTRAN) in 3GPP (3rd Generation Partnership Project) is progressing, and recently, there has been a demand for small home premises equipment, which is usually It is called Home Node B (HNB). Devices of this type have been proposed for the Universal Mobile Telecommunications System (UMTS), with the requirement that they should support existing User Equipment (UE) supporting legacy versions of the standard, known as legacy UEs. [0003] HNBs contain at least radio base station functionality, typically for very small cells, so called femto cells (or pico cells). Firstly, for the purposes of this application,...
