Abstract

The invention discloses a basic input / output system architecture, which is used in a computer system and comprises at least one basic input / output system, a programmable chip module, a baseboard management controller, a south bridge chip and a network interface controller, wherein the network interface controller is connected with the south bridge chip and the baseboard management controller, when remote updating data is received, whether the remote updating data is transmitted to the south bridge chip or the basic input / output system is judged; and when the remote updating data is transmitted to the south bridge chip, the remote updating data is used for updating the basic input / output system through the south bridge chip, and when the remote updating data is transmitted to the baseboardmanagement controller, the network interface controller informs the baseboard management controller to receive the remote updating data, and further controls the programmable chip module to update the basic input / output system according to the remote updating data. The basic input / output system is updated through two different paths, thus the defect that the computer system is easy to retard whenthe south bridge chip is only used for update is avoided.
