Embodiment Construction

[0026] Embodiments of the present disclosure provide a paging schedule that may allow a WiMAX mobile device to return to a low power state before the listening interval ends, thereby reducing power consumption. For some embodiments, the base station may control the paging schedule using standardized paging messages that target specific MSs in groups that appear in an organized fashion during the listening interval. Thus, if an MS learning of the schedule does not detect a paging message at the time it expects in the listening interval, it can quickly return to a low power state before the listening interval ends.

Abstract

Certain embodiments of the present disclosure provide a paging schedule that may allow a WiMAX mobile device to return to a low power state prior to the end of a listening interval, thereby reducing power consumption. For certain embodiments, the paging schedule may be controlled by a base station using standardized paging messages, with paging messages targeting particular MSs in a group presented in an organized manner within a listening interval. An MS aware of this schedule may, thus, promptly return to a low power state prior to the end of a listening interval if it does not detect a paging message at its expected time within the listening interval.

Description

technical field [0001] Some embodiments of the present disclosure relate generally to wireless communications and, more particularly, to idle mode operation. Background technique [0002] The Mobile WiMAX standard defines an idle mode during which a mobile station (MS) can power down components to try to conserve energy. In idle mode, the MS powers up components to monitor for paging messages during repeated MS paging listening ("listen") intervals, while simultaneously powering down components during MS paging unavailable ("sleep") intervals. Electricity. [0003] In a mobile WiMAX network, each WiMAX frame has a 24-bit frame number that increments frame-by-frame, and restarts from zero when the maximum value is reached. This frame number can be used to decide when a base station (BS) should send a BS Broadcast Paging (MOB_PAG-ADV) message at a certain paging offset (Paging_Offset) in a periodic paging cycle (Paging_Cycle). In order to synchronize with the paging cycle o...
