Embodiment Construction

[0026] Detailed embodiments of the invention are disclosed herein. It should be understood, however, that the disclosed embodiments are merely illustrative of the invention that may be embodied in various forms. Furthermore, each example given in relation to various embodiments of the invention is by way of illustration, not limitation. In addition, the drawings are not necessarily to scale and some features may be exaggerated to show details of particular components (and any dimensions, materials and similar details shown in the drawings are of course illustrative and not limiting sexual). Therefore, specific structural and functional details disclosed herein are not to be interpreted as limiting, but merely as a representative basis for teaching one skilled in the art to variously employ the present invention.

[0027] As described herein, various embodiments of the present invention provide a motion inducing element (e.g., on the glenosphere and / or humeral liner) that whe...

Abstract

One embodiment of the present invention relates to a reverse shoulder assembly. Another embodiment of the present invention relates to a reverse shoulder assembly method of use. In one example, a reverse shoulder assembly of the present invention may be provided such that the reverse shoulder assembly alters the abduction force created by a patient's deltoid to a forward flexion force. In one example, a reverse shoulder assembly of the present invention may be provided such that the reverse shoulder assembly alters the abduction force created by a patient's deltoid to an external rotation force. In one example, a reverse shoulder assembly of the present invention may be provided such that the reverse shoulder assembly alters the abduction force created by a patient's deltoid to an external rotation force and a forward flexion force.

Description

Background technique [0001] Reverse shoulder prostheses have been indicated for patients with nonfunctional rotator cuff, pain, secondary arthropathy, and pseudoparalysis. Patients receiving reverse shoulder prosthesis implants often have muscle deficits that prevent them from achieving internal or external rotation or more complex movements that require a combination of internal or external rotation and another type of motion. One such example is a clinical condition often referred to as "horn-blowing chirality" or "dropping sign," in which a defect in the external rotator muscle prevents the patient from turning the arm outward when the arm is raised Rotates the arm and often causes the arm to fall into internal rotation as it is raised. External rotation is used for many activities in everyday life, including, but not limited to, eating and brushing teeth. Some of the external rotators in the shoulder are the posterior deltoid, infraspinatus, and teres minor—patients with...
