A method for converting an initial dynamic range of an image signal into a target dynamic range comprises the following steps of: partitioning the initial dynamic range and the target dynamic range into a plurality of corresponding sub-ranges, and mapping each initial sub-range to a target sub-range corresponding to the initial sub-range, wherein one dynamic range is partitioned into a plurality of sub-ranges with same sizes; and the other dynamic range is partitioned into corresponding sub-ranges, and the size of each sub-range is based on the characteristics of the sub-ranges with the same sizes.
