Embodiment Construction

[0021] In the following detailed description, reference is made to the accompanying drawings which form a part hereof. In the drawings, similar symbols typically identify similar components, unless context dictates otherwise. The exemplary embodiments described in the detailed description, drawings, and claims are not limiting. Other embodiments may be utilized, and other changes may be made, without departing from the spirit or scope of the subject matter presented here. It should be understood that the aspects of the present disclosure generally described herein and illustrated in the drawings can be arranged, substituted, combined, divided and designed in many different configurations both explicitly and implicitly disclosed herein.

[0022] This application describes example methods for creating a representation of a video including "highlights" of the video. This representation is therefore a shorter video than the original video, which according to the following proces...

Abstract

The present invention provides a method to create a lecture video summary containing the highlights of the original educational video based on visual quality and content. The method includes using Hidden Markov Models (HMMs) to segment and identify activities in videos. Divide the activities into 3 categories: talking head, writing hand, and slide show. Classify talking head frames as non-content frames, while writing hands and slide shows are classified as content frames. No-reference-based objective quality assessment of non-content frames is performed to detect high-quality frames. The intensity histogram of the content frame and the statistical parameters of the horizontal projection profile (HPP) are used to derive an objective quality metric of the content frame for extracting high-quality content frames. The selected high-quality non-content and content frames form a video clip or summary, which is a time-compressed representation of the video.

Description

[0001] Cross References to Related Applications [0002] This application claims priority under 35 U.S.C §119 to a corresponding patent application, Application No. 1779 / MUM / 2009, filed in India on August 3, 2009, the entire contents of which are hereby incorporated by reference. Background technique [0003] Educators and educational institutions want to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of knowledge transfer by incorporating technologies. As the use of blackboards has evolved to use overhead projectors, and further to use digital presentation, live lectures have evolved to, for example, digitally stored and available pre-recorded video productions. Digitally available pre-recorded video lectures provide greater access to knowledge, and in some cases entire courses can be taught via pre-recorded video lectures. [0004] When a student is interested in signing up for a particular course taught via pre-recorded video lectures, it may be beneficial for the student to hav...
