Abstract

Described is a method for transmitting a caller number (ANI), comprising: - receiving (54, 120) digital coded first data (ANI) which comprises the digits of a caller (A) number, - using the received first data (ANI) to generate at least one tone for each digit, - sending (56, 122) the generated tones to a telephone (CPEB) of a callee (B), wherein all steps are performed automatically in a gateway device (MG) which transmits data between networks (10, 12) using transmission protocols that are different from each other, wherein the gateway device (MG) is controlled by a control device (MGC) and wherein the protocol according to IETF RFC 3015 or ITU-T protocol H.248.1 is used between the gateway device (MG) and the control device (MGC) or a protocol that is based on one of these protocol.
