Embodiment Construction

[0025] Safety devices, such as shielding assemblies, may be used to protect the operator of the vehicle. These devices may include a main plate on a pivot such that an operator can pivot the main plate from an open position to a closed, protected position. This operation requires the operator to stand up and move behind and / or to the side of the area to be protected (eg, the driver's seat area) to unlock the main board so that it can pivot to a closed, secured position. For example, figure 1 A shield 1 is shown which is pivotally connected to a support wall 5 by a pivot 4 . Thus, the driver can sit in the seat 3 and, before sitting behind the steering wheel 6, pivot the shield 3 about the pivot 4 as indicated by the arrow in order to close the shield and thus protect the driver. Since, in the open position, the protective cover 1 is not easily accessible to the driver of the seat 3, the driver must secure the protective cover when the bus is stationary. It should also be no...

Abstract

A shield device (10) comprising a main panel (26), a frame (38, 54) and a sliding element that engages the main panel and the frame. The main panel slides can slide relative to the frame between an opened position and a closed position. The shield device is configured to be installed in a vehicle, on a side of an operator area. When installed in the vehicle, when in the closed position, the main panel forms a barrier across the one side of the operator area. In one embodiment, the method of using a shield device in a vehicle can comprise releasing a latch (24) holding a panel in an open position, sliding the panel on a side of an operator area in the vehicle to a close position, wherein the panel cannot be readily moved back to an open position from someone outside of the operator area.

Description

technical field [0001] The present disclosure relates to safety devices, and in particular to driver shields. Background technique [0002] Intercity passenger coaches transport passengers point-to-point, such as Greyhound buses in the United States. Similar buses can also be used in public transport operations within metropolitan areas. Regardless, bus drivers are usually engrossed in driving the bus, and thus may not notice that passengers attempt to attack the bus driver, take over the bus, rob a bus driver collecting a fare, until it is too late to prevent direct contact. Consequently, the bus driver cannot install proper protection against intrusive passenger disturbances without being able to let go of the controls of the bus. If the passenger coach is a bus, passengers may also try to rob the driver who collects the fare. [0003] Buses typically always run during the day, running at night creates special problems for drivers. The driver is exposed to both glare a...
