Embodiment Construction

[0033] The making and using of the presently preferred embodiments are discussed in detail below. It should be appreciated, however, that the present invention provides many applicable inventive concepts that can be embodied in a wide variety of specific contexts. The specific embodiments discussed are merely illustrative of specific ways to make and use the invention.

[0034] For purposes of clarity, the same reference numbers will be used to refer to the same elements throughout the drawings, unless otherwise indicated. Also, features that have already been described will not be described in further detail. The use of subscripts 1 and 2 indicates data referring to image files IF1 and IF2, respectively. The subscript '1 / 2' indicates that the formula applies to one or the other or both of the two files.

[0035] figure 2 Denotes a method for direct comparison of an image file IF1 , both of size M x N pixels, with another image file IF2 , called SSIM.

Abstract

There is provided a method of measuring the similarity of parts of digital image files (IF1, IF2,IF2-z)), which comprising the steps of calculating a first change value in a similarity between pixel values in a first segment (BIF1a) of a first digital image file (IF1) and in a second segment (BIF1b) of this first file (IF1), said first and second segments of said first file being spatially separated by a first translation vector (td1), calculating a second change value (?) in the similarity between pixel values in a first segment (BIF2a) of the second digital image file (IF2, IF2-z) and in a second segment (BIF2b) of the second file (IF2, IF2-z), said first and second segment of said second file being spatially separated a second translation vector (td2), wherein the first segment of the first file corresponds to substantially same part of the image as the first segment of the second file and wherein the second segment of the first file corresponds to substantially the same parts of the image as the second segment of the second file, and calculating a structure evolution value indicative of the similarity between the first and second changes.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates to fidelity measurement of digital images, and more particularly to fidelity measurement of images before and after transformations are performed on the images. Background technique [0002] Methods for measuring the similarity of one digital image to another are useful in many situations. Especially when the second image is the result of a transformation performed on the first image. It is desirable to obtain a numerical measure or number of the value of fidelity from the direct measurement of these two digital images. [0003] Digital images are typically represented by files comprising rectangular matrices of pixels. The number of pixels is often referred to as resolution. This term can be used as the resolution along a given axis or the image file as a whole. [0004] figure 1 Indicates some of the possible operations that may have to be performed on digital image files. A digital image file IF1 having a pixel wi...
