Problems solved by technology

[0007] While these configurations are satisfactory, it may be inconvenient to initiate individual portable device logins at the ECB if there are a large number of firefighters and associated portable devices at the incident scene
Furthermore, if multiple ECBs are being used in the incident scene, initiating a login from the portable device can result in the portable device being logged on to an incorrect ECB, for example, an ECB associated with a different fire department

Embodiment 1

[0075] will now refer to figure 1 An embodiment is illustrated in which the portable device 16A1 initiates a login process. When the portable device 16A1 initiates the login process, eg, by threshold air pressure detection or by a button press, the portable device 16A1 begins periodically sending unaddressed login messages containing an identifier that identifies the particular portable device 16 or firefighter. In this embodiment, the login message sent by the portable device 16A1 includes a portable device identifier which is the address of the portable device 16A1 - 0123456789A1. The login message is received by all central monitoring stations 12 within range, namely, central monitoring station 12A and central monitoring station 12B. The login decision unit 52 of both central monitoring stations 12A, 12B checks whether the identifier 0123456789A1 included in the login message is contained in the respective priority list 54 . The login determination unit 52 of the central ...

Embodiment 2

[0077] will now refer to figure 1 An embodiment is illustrated wherein the portable device 16D1 initiates a login process. When the portable device 16D1 initiates the login process, eg, by threshold air pressure detection or by a button press, the portable device 16D1 begins periodically sending unaddressed login messages containing an identifier that identifies the particular portable device 16 or firefighter. In this embodiment, the login message sent by the portable device 16D1 includes a portable device identifier which is the address of the portable device 16D1 - 0123456789D1. The login message is received by all central monitoring stations 12 within range, namely, central monitoring station 12A and central monitoring station 12B. The login decision unit 52 of both central monitoring stations 12A, 12B checks whether the identifier 0123456789D1 included in the login message is contained in the corresponding priority list 54 . The login determination unit 52 of both centr...

Abstract

There is disclosed a telemetry monitoring apparatus for remotely monitoring a plurality of users, such as firefighters, working in a hazardous environment. The apparatus comprises a plurality of portable devices, each arranged to be associated with breathing apparatus worn by a user, and at least one central monitoring station onto which portable devices can be logged on and monitored. The portable devices are arranged to transmit a logon message including an identifier identifying either the user or the portable device. The central monitoring station comprises a receiver arranged to receive logon messages; priority data containing the identifiers of users or portable devices which should be logged onto the central monitoring station; a logon determination unit arranged to determine whether the identifier included in a received logon message from a portable device is contained within the priority data; and a logon unit arranged to perform a logon procedure to logon the said portable device onto the central monitoring station. If the logon determination unit determines that the said identifier is contained within the priority data, the logon procedure is commenced.

Description

technical field [0001] The invention relates to a telemetry monitoring device, a central monitoring station and a method for logging a portable device into the central monitoring station. Background technique [0002] Firefighters and other rescue personnel often need to enter hazardous environments, such as burning buildings. In this case, firefighters are equipped with self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) that provide breathable gas to the firefighters. [0003] The breathing apparatus may be provided with a portable device including an electronic monitoring unit that provides information to firefighters. For example, this message may include breathable gas remaining, cylinder pressure, time to whistle (TTW) and temperature. This information can be monitored by firefighters to ensure they are working safely and within breathing apparatus restrictions. The monitoring unit may also perform the function of an automatic distress signal unit (ADSU), or known as a person...
