Embodiment Construction

[0067] With reference to the accompanying drawings, figure 1 An exemplary embodiment of a system 10 is shown, comprising a set of spectacle frames 11 with a scene camera 12, and two eye-tracking cameras 13a, 13b. A scene camera 12 is oriented on the frame 11 to view an area remote from the device wearer's head 14 to track the environment 15 in the device wearer's area. For example, the scene camera 12 may be used to identify motion of an object (such as a football 16) or any identifiable change in size, brightness, geometry, color, etc. of an object or sub-area of the camera, for example to establish a reference for reaction time measurements time, as described further below. Eye tracking cameras 13a and 13b are oriented toward the wearer's head 14 on the frame 11 to track the wearer's eyelids, pupils, and / or other reference points (e.g., pupils, iris, or sclera) on one or both eyes. (not shown)) location.

Abstract

Systems and methods are provided to measure reaction times and/or responses for head, eye, eyelid movements, and/or changes in pupil geometry. The system includes eyewear or headwear including one or more eye-tracking cameras for monitoring the position and geometry of at least one eye and its components of the user, one or more scene cameras for monitoring the user's surroundings, and one or more processors to determine reaction times. Optionally, the system may include one or more of a multi-axis accelerometer to monitor head movements, light sources to trigger visual evoked responses, and/or electronic inputs that may be used to indicate the time of occurrence of external reference events. Measured reaction times and other measurements may be monitored for use in a range of applications. Responses and reaction times may be measured continuously over extended periods, even over a lifetime to measure consequences of the aging process.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates to apparatus and methods for unobtrusively measuring reaction times and / or other responses and subsequent changes in the device wearer's head, eyes, eyelids and / or pupils following an event generated in the device wearer's general environment . Background technique [0002] An individual's response to a spontaneously or intentionally generated event involves multiple complex neural and physiological steps including detection, conduction of neural pathways, synaptic connections, perception, cognition, and neuromuscular control. Normal activity or disturbance of any anatomical structures or chemical reactions involved in these steps, as well as physiological awareness and training, can affect an individual's response magnitude and reaction time. Unobtrusive devices that measure reaction times and / or other responses of individuals over brief (i.e., seconds to minutes) or extended (i.e., days or even years) periods of time ha...
