Embodiment Construction

[0027] The Automatic Audible Alarm Origination Locator (AAOL) function according to various embodiments is an interconnection protocol that allows for the auditory discovery of an alarm from an originating alarm device during its duration. The initiating alarm device sounds its pattern of alert tone pulses without interruption, while the non-initiating alarm device periodically pauses sounding groups of its audible alert tone pulses. The originating alarm device can be found by listening to the alarm device for sounding a burst of bursts of audible warning tones continuously without pause. In order for the originating alarm to be most visible, the interconnected alarms should be synchronized. Therefore, AAOL also includes siren synchronization so that the temporal audio pulse pattern of all interconnected alarm devices is consistent. A plurality of hazard warning devices are located at spatially different locations and are coupled together by means of an input-output bus. Th...

Abstract

A plurality of hazard warning devices are located in spatially different positions and are coupled together by means of an input-output bus. The interconnection protocol enables a non-originating alarm device to synchronize its audible alert tone pulses with an audible alert tone pulse from an originating alarm device in a local hazard alarm condition. Thus, all audible alert tone pulses start sounding substantially together, allowing signal contention and arbitration between the spatially distinct alarm devices. The initiating alarm device continuously sounds its pattern of bursts of audible alert tone pulses without interruption, while the non-initiating alarm device periodically pauses sounding the bursts of its audible alert tone pulses. The originating alarm device may be found by listening to the alarm device for sounding a burst of bursts of audible warning tones continuously without pause.

Description

[0001] Related Patent Applications [0002] This application asserts commonly owned U.S. Serial No. 61 / 558,509, filed November 11, 2011, by Erik Johnson, entitled "Automatic Audible Alarm Origination Locate" Priority to Provisional Patent Application and entitled "Temporal Horn Pattern Synchronization" filed May 23, 2012 by Eric Johnson and John M. Yerger 13 / 478,486”; both of which are hereby incorporated by reference for all purposes. technical field [0003] The present invention relates to hazard detection and alarm signaling devices, and more particularly to determining the location of an originating device in an audible alarm. Background technique [0004] Hazard detection and alarm signaling devices for detecting fire, smoke, carbon monoxide, radon, natural gas, chlorine, water, moisture, etc. are well known in the art. Such devices may be coupled together using an input-output (IO) bus to form, for example, an interconnected system of independent spatially distinct...
