Abstract

The present application relates to an image sensor having pixels with increased optical crosstalk and uses thereof. An image sensor includes first pixels and second pixels. The first pixel includes a first photosensitive element, a first filter and a first microlens. The second pixel is disposed adjacent to the first pixel and includes a second photosensitive element, a second filter, and a second microlens. The first pixel is configured to direct at least some of the light received at the first microlens to the second photosensitive element of the second pixel to increase optical crosstalk so as to reduce color aliasing.

Description

[0001] Cross-references to related applications [0002] This application claims the benefit of US Provisional Application No. 61 / 789,013, filed March 15, 2013. US Provisional Application No. 61 / 789,013 is hereby incorporated by reference. technical field [0003] The present invention relates generally to image sensors, and in particular, but not exclusively, to optical crosstalk in CMOS image sensors. Background technique [0004] Image sensors have become ubiquitous. It is widely used in digital still cameras, cellular phones, security cameras, as well as in medical, automotive and other applications. The technology used to fabricate image sensors, and in particular complementary metal-oxide-semiconductor ("CMOS") image sensors, has continued to advance rapidly. For example, the need for higher resolution and lower power consumption has prompted further miniaturization and integration of these image sensors. [0005] Conventional CMOS image sensors use an array of co...
