The gas outlet of a high-pressure gas source is communicated with a gas inlet door of an engine by a gas inlet pipe; a gas inlet flow sensor and a gas inlet pressure sensor are mounted on the gas inlet pipe; a cylinder pressure sensor is mounted on a cylinder cover of the engine; an exhaust door of the engine is connected with a gas outlet pipe; an exhaust pressure sensor and an exhaust pressure adjusting valve are mounted on the gas outlet pipe; a crank angle coder is mounted on a crank of the engine. The method is used for measuring the pressure of the gas inlet pipe, the pressure of a cylinder and the change of the pressure of the exhaust pipe along with the crank angle; according to the pressure difference between the gas inlet pipe and the cylinder and the pressure difference between the gas inlet pipe and the exhaust pipe, the exhaust gas flow is calculated, the accumulated exhaust amount in the gas inlet pipe and the exhaust pipe is thus obtained, and finally, the residual exhaust gas coefficient which is caused by the backflow of the exhaust pipe can be determined.
