Abstract

Search is assisted by recognizing selection of text from a document as an indication that the user wishes to initiate a search based on the selected text. Based on the selected text, the user is provided with query suggestions that are ranked based on the context provided by the document. A user may select text by using a mouse, by drawing a ring around the text on a touch screen, or by other input techniques. Query suggestions may be based on query reformulation or query expansion techniques applied to selected text. The context provided by the document is used by the language model and / or artificial intelligence system to rank query suggestions in an order of predicted relevance based on the selected text and that context.
