Abstract

A method and apparatus for supporting a multimedia broadcast service in a wireless communication system includes: generating a carrier capable of carrying data services including broadcast data and unicast data, wherein the carrier includes a carrier type that is not backward compatible with existing carriers. Aspects of the method and apparatus include transmitting broadcast data in at least one subframe of a plurality of subframes. The aspect also includes providing control information at least for unicast data associated with the at least one subframe, and transmitting the carrier.
