Abstract

The present disclosure relates to latency determination in a substation network. One aspect relates to a method performed in a first electronic device of a substation network. Another aspect relates to a method performed in a relay device of a substation network. Yet another aspect relates to a method performed in a second electronic device of a substation network. The latency is determined using a precision time protocol, such as the IEEE 1588v2 protocol. However, GPS-based master clock timing is not required. Rather, at least one data value is included as a payload in a message of the Precision Time Protocol. The relay adds the dwell time and link latency to the message. The message is then forwarded to the second electronic device. Also provided are corresponding first electronic devices, relay devices, and second electronic devices, as well as computer programs and computer program products.
