Embodiment Construction

[0020] Reference will now be made to the drawings, wherein like reference numerals designate like structural features or aspects of the present disclosure. For purposes of illustration and illustration, and not limitation, a partial view of an exemplary embodiment of a total air temperature probe according to the present disclosure is shown at figure 1 and generally marked with the reference symbol 100. Other embodiments or aspects thereof of total air temperature probes according to the present disclosure are provided in Figure 2 to Figure 5 middle. The systems and methods described herein may be used to reduce or eliminate deicing heating errors (DHE) in total air temperature (TAT) probes.

[0021] Such as figure 1 with figure 2 shown in, the TAT probe 100 includes Figure 5 Probe body 102 , inner flow channel 104 , sloped surface 118 and TAT sensor 122 are shown in FIG. Probe body 102 extends along longitudinal axis A from probe base 106 to opposing probe tip 108 an...

Abstract

A total air temperature probe comprising: a probe body extending along a longitudinal axis from a probe base to an opposing probe tip defining a leading edge and an opposing trailing edge; an inner flow channel aligned with the longitudinal axis defined in the probe body having An inlet for fluid communication with the inner flow channel and an outlet for expelling fluid from the inner flow channel are defined on the probe tip. A sloped surface on the probe tip extends from the leading edge to the trailing edge. A temperature sensor is installed within the inner runner for measuring the temperature of the fluid passing through the inner runner to determine the total air temperature. A sloped surface is flush with the leading edge and is indented relative to the longitudinal axis from the trailing edge to define a lip adjacent the trailing edge. The sloped surface and the lip are configured to form a high pressure region adjacent an inlet of the inner runner.

Description

[0001] Cross References to Related Applications [0002] This application claims priority to US Provisional Patent Application Serial No. 61 / 891,662, filed October 16, 2013, the entire contents of which are incorporated herein by reference. technical field [0003] The present disclosure relates to total air temperature (TAT) probes or sensors. More specifically, the present disclosure relates to TAT probes that experience in-flight icing effects. Background technique [0004] Modern jet powered aircraft require very accurate outside air temperature (OAT) measurements for input to air data computers, engine thrust management computers and other onboard systems. For these aircraft types, their associated flight conditions, and general use of the total air temperature sensor, air temperature is preferably defined by the following four temperatures: (1) Static Air Temperature (SAT) or (T S ), (2) total air temperature (TAT) or (T t ), (3) recovery temperature (T r ) and (4)...
